I know that many people don’t want to move to Linux because they cannot use Photoshop. I’m sorry lads, that excuse won’t be valid anymore. Just follow these few steps and you will have Photoshop CS5 running in your Linux system.
Installing Wine
Go to the Ubuntu software center, search and download Wine Windows Program Loader (Version: wine1.4 1.4-0ubuntu4.1).
Download Photoshop CS5
Obviously you will need to download Photoshop CS5. I’ve heard some legends about a portable version built for Linux 😉
Install Photoshop CS5
Let’s imagine for a moment that there is portable version of Photoshop and you actually have it. Right click hover the file InstallerPhotoshopCS5.sh, go to properties -> permissions, and activate the option “Allow execute file as a program“.
Click the file again and run the installer (You can skip these steps running the installer directly from the Terminal).
Setup Photoshop CS5
Photoshop CS5 has been installed in “/home/.wine/wineprefixes/PhotoshopCS5” (If you cannot see the “.wine” folder is because it’s hidden. Try using Crtl+h when you are in the “/home” folder).
After the installation a few useless icons will be created in the Desktop. Feel free to remove all of them.
Now go to the path “/home/.wine/wineprefixes/PhotoshopCS5/drive_c/users” copy all the content from the folder “evilgold“. Then go back one level into the users folder and paste all the content in your user folder (If your user folder doesn’t exist just create it with the name of your Linux user).
Ready to go
Now go to the path
“/home/.wine/wineprefixes/PhotoshopCS5/drive_c/bin/” and copy the file “PhotoshopCS5Launcher.sh” in your desktop. Rename the file as “Photoshop CS5“, make it executable as we did before and enjoy!

I got that error the first time, I’ve copied the evilgold content into my user folder and now is working 😉

I’ve got CS5 running in Ubuntu 12.04 using wine and the suggested package. Working great, no problems except I can only see my C:\ drive. I share photos to another partition (NTFS) but am unable to see it via the CS5 app.
